The pricey vintage mistake I made 5 times in a row

At a huge Bay Area flea market, I’m standing near two women gazing helplessly at a rack of vintage fur coats. They’re bonding over how much they adore sustainable fashion but have no clue how to buy a fur.

"What’s the difference between fox and mink?"

"How does sizing work when there are no labels?"

"What if the coat falls to shreds the first time I wear it?"

Furs aren't T-shirts, and these women were afraid of making a huge, nonrefundable mistake.

I know exactly how they felt. A bunch of years back I went on an online coat-buying streak, and guess what? None of them fit me.

I was stuck with 5 fur coats and jackets, several of which made me look like the abominable snowman, and not in the good way. Two even had tears and stains although the seller promised “pristine” or “my grandma wore it literally twice after her second husband gifted it to her.”

Long story short(ish), this is what led me to start Moxiefurs, which is now Moxie Vintage Furs. For more than a decade, I’ve hand-selected vintage furs for charm, flair, and of course, condition. Unlike folks who use the term "vintage" to mean anything from guard-hair wear on one elbow to a quart of coffee hurled across the lining, transparency is my thing. I take a billion photos and describe every little detail, so the only surprise is how much more beautiful your fur is in person.

Moxie Vintage is definitely not some big, faceless corporate entity—I LOVE to bounce around ideas and measurements to help you decide. And if for any reason your purchase isn't exactly what you were looking for, you can return it for a refund or exchange, no stress.
