Are your furs real?

Yes! Our fox, mink, sable, and other furs are all genuine; they are not fake or faux. From time to time we carry fabulous vintage faux furs, which will be clearly marked in the listing.

What size fur will fit me?

The eternal question! Many vintage furs don't have size labels or standard sizes like contemporary clothing, so each of our items has a full set of measurements. Comparing them to an item you already own is the very best way to gauge fit.

With classic stoles and capes, roughly speaking, 25" or below across-the-bust measurement is a smaller size, 26" is medium, and 27"+ is a larger size. With wraps fastening around the shoulders, 22" or below is a smaller size, 23" is medium, and 24"+ is larger. Wraps can often be made smaller by adding/moving an eye, or larger by adding a cloak chain or ribbon ties sewn into the lining.

For reference, our mannequin with arms is a tall size 4 with 34" bust and a 16" shoulder measurement. The dress form is an armless size 2. With vintage, it's best not to be optimistic about sizing. If in doubt, message us!

Can you guarantee a delivery date for my fur?

We're delighted to help you choose a shipping service that will offer the best chance of your fur arriving when you need it!

While we wish we could guarantee deliveries, we're unable to promise a specific date or time because we have to rely on services such as USPS and UPS to deliver packages, and we don't have control over unforeseen delays and weather events.

We do promise to do everything we can to help even last-minute packages arrive in the nick of time! With tight shipping deadlines, we've found it best to keep expectations low and hopes very high. :) That said, we have a good track record--check out our reviews.

How do I know your vintage items are in good condition?

We believe in transparency, and we inspect every inch so you don't have to. Because we describe even minor signs of wear unnoticeable except to a trained eye, it may sound like our items have more issues than others you see online. But many sellers feel the term "vintage" covers these small signs of wear, so they don't bother to mention them or show lining photos.

At Moxie Vintage, all our furs are healthy, vibrant, and ready to wear! Most are truly excellent inside and out. Offering some furs that have a few marks on the lining enables us to make beautiful furs available to a wide range of budgets. Some furs have been recently cleaned or relined, and for others, professional cleaning or relining is optional--instead of increasing our prices, we let you decide. We're happy to explore these additional services for you.

We stand behind every item we sell, and unlike many vintage shops, we do accept returns. The most important thing is that you are delighted with your purchase!

How do I care for my fur?

Always store your fur away from light and heat, preferably in a breathable garment bag or large pillowcase (not a plastic bag or cedar chest). The ideal hanger will have rounded ends that won't poke or strain the shoulders of your fur.

Periodic professional cleanings are recommended to keep the fur fluffy and the skin supple.

What should I know about buying vintage furs?

Most pre-loved furs--even those in excellent condition--will show some signs of wear, such as very faint smudges to lining edges or a little compression alongside a pocket edge. We don't always have specific information about origin date and previous owners, so our close inspection of the fur's current state is what we go by in our descriptions.

If perfection is more your style, a brand-new item might be the best choice. But if you're drawn to charming items with minor quirks that make them unique; you value the sustainable practices of preserving and repurposing; and you accept the fact that small repairs may be necessary down the line (which is the case with newer furs as well), one of our gorgeous vintage furs would be a fabulous addition to your wardrobe.

Will my fur look exactly like the photos?

We take multiple photos on both a mannequin and a dress form and even include lining photos so the only surprise will be how much more beautiful your fur is in person (we hear this all the time!). Furs will look a little different on everyone depending on height and proportions.

Every effort has been made to calibrate photographs to represent colors accurately, but due to the nature and settings of different screens and monitors, and the variance of perception, colors may appear slightly different in person. It's our goal to be as transparent as possible, so we've included descriptions of the color of each fur and are always happy to answer your questions before purchasing.

How do I buy a vintage fur if I live in Italy or China?

Italy prohibits the import of furs and leather, and China prohibits the import of used clothing, so we're not able to ship there. If you live in one of these countries and plan to go outside the country--or have a friend elsewhere who can bring you the fur--we're happy to ship to that address.
